چکیده

The general objective of the work underway is to develop a baseline characterization of the spatial and temporal variability in optical/acoustical water properties for tropical island environments in response to variations in physical forcing. OBJECTIVES Specifically, the project aims to address the following questions:-What are the dominant space and time scales for variability in optical and acoustical water properties for tropical island reef environments?-How do these vary for different reef zones, including forereef, reef flat, lagoon and channel areas?-What are the dominant hydrodynamic controls across different reef environments? Tropical coral health can be significantly affected by sedimentation that can limit light availability, impact recruitment and bury coral colonies. The ongoing work will improve understanding of the dynamical processes that affect variability in optical and hydrodynamic properties for these important environments.

Hydrodynamic Modelling of Coral Reefs:Ningaloo Reef-Western Australia

As with all coral reef systems, the ecology of Ningaloo Reef is closely linked to water circulation which transport and disperse key material such as nutrients and larvae. Circulation on coral reefs may be driven by a number of forcing mechanisms including waves, tides, wind, and buoyancy effects. Surface waves interacting with reefs have long been known to dominate the currents on many coral r...

Phenological decoupling of mortality from wave forcing in kelp beds.

Kelps often live in a harsh hydrodynamic environment where wave-driven dislodgement of individuals can alter the biodiversity and functioning of reef systems, and increase production in coastal ecosystems adjacent to reefs. The current paradigm is that winter storms tear kelps from reefs once hydrodynamic forces exceed attachment or tissue strength--a threshold response that implies a pulsed re...

Effect of Ink Formulation and Paper Surface Morphology on Ink-jet Printing Properties

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of type of alcohols and humectants in inks formulation, and the papers surface morphology on the ink-jet printing properties. In order to investigate the influence of alcohol and humectant types on printing properties, the optimum ink formulation from previous study, which contained C.I. Reactive Blue 21 Ink2 was formulated with different ...

Modeling of Hydrodynamic Factors for Management of Coastal Hazards, Case Study: Khamir Port, Persian Gulf, Iran

In coastal areas, hydrodynamic factors make changes in shorelines geomorphology. This can affect coastal facilities and cause hazards to human societies in the areas. This study has investigated the influence of wave and tide properties on Khamir Port, Hormoz Strait in coast of Persian Gulf. The purpose of the study is to make a mathematical regional and local modeling of water level fluctuatio...

Correction: Ecohydrodynamics of Cold-Water Coral Reefs: A Case Study of the Mingulay Reef Complex (Western Scotland)

Ecohydrodynamics investigates the hydrodynamic constraints on ecosystems across different temporal and spatial scales. Ecohydrodynamics play a pivotal role in the structure and functioning of marine ecosystems, however the lack of integrated complex flow models for deep-water ecosystems beyond the coastal zone prevents further synthesis in these settings. We present a hydrodynamic model for one...
